Twinwood-tastic

What did you do over the August bank holiday weekend??? I was a very lucky gal and got to go the the fabulous vintage festival Twinwood. Friends of mine go every year and it always sounds so fabulous and was thrilled this year to have the opportunity to go along myself too.

My good friend Sharon and I set off early Saturday morning for our 2 nights and 3 days away at a Travelodge (oooh the glamour!!!!) close to the site. Both of us were stupidly excited as we rarely get a weekend pass out these days and were determined to make the most of it by having a bloody good time. I was driver and Sharon was co-pilot and that awesome combination got us there safe and sound and just in the nick of time to see one of our favourite bands Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods at the control tower stage. Coincidentally we had both chosen to travel in our Carmen Ghia t.shirts so we were ready for the gig.....albeit a little stalkerish hehehe!!!

The festival was enormous with several different stages playing music to suit ALL tastes all day and night. Lots of smaller venues too which were great for the evenings with a variety of music and entertainment.

Lots of classic and vintage cars for posing with!!!

On the first night we has a fabulous evening in the Colonial Club watching Lola and the Lamours perform as well as Dusty Limits - we also met John Miller off of the John Miller Orchestra. Here's a couple of pics of Sharon hobnobbing with the stars!!!

Lots of people don't know that there is a fabulous museum at Twinwood with lots of everyday scenes recreated from the war era - great fun and very educational, also lots of photo opportunities!!!

Me pretending to be a mannequin in my Vivien of Holloway ensemble at their stall - luckily for my bank balance they weren't selling this year, just displaying. The girls were so sweet and friendly.

We generally tried to avoid the stalls due to a lack of funds but couldn't resist a quick pose with 2 of my favourite repro vintage clothing brands - Freddies of Pinewood and Heyday, especially as I was wearing something from them each time!!!

The weather was surprisingly fabulous for the whole bank holiday weekend as you can see in the pictures although I did manage to get this ace 'brolly shot' from just before we left on the Monday. Rain doesn't stop the vintage fun y'know!!!

We saw some amazing and fabulous acts over the weekend, my favourite was probably Max Raabe and the Palaast Orchestra - simple divine darlings. Rather like a modern day German Noel Coward. Other highlights included Carmen Ghia and the Hotrods, Lola and the Lamours, The John Miller Orchestra, Fleur de Paris and The Jive Aces. It really was a packed weekend of live music and entertainment, dance classes and demonstrations, vintage shopping and living history...brilliant!!! Finances and childcare permitting I would love to go again but might not be for a couple of years.

Highly recommended to all my vintage loving friends...toodle pip!!!

Outfit of the week #2

None of my outfits last week were particularly spectacular, partly due to the horrendous weather restricting my wardrobe choices and partly because of being so darned busy lately I'm behind with washing, ironing etc which has left my wardrobe depleted. This is what I wore on Saturday to Bakewell Day of Dance where the Nottingham Swing Dance Society - of which I'm a member, put on a demo. Lovely day but shocking weather so again please forgive the rather dull combination. Also I was dressed for comfort whilst dancing and it was too breezy (and chilly) for a frock!!! It is a fairly typical 'off duty' outfit for me though.

A vintage obsession.......cakestands!!!

Although I like 'stuff' and lots of it, especially of a vintage variety I have never been what I would call a collector..........until now. I realised a few months ago that I seem to have a bit of a thang for cakestands, vintage or modern vintage inspired ones - if it catches my eye and the price is right I just can't resist. Many of my current collection were given as gifts and the rest picked up cheap as chips.

This is as good a picture I could get of the collection. They are hidden away in the kitchen cupboards and the smaller ones on the top of them. Took me ages to hunt them all out.

This is my favourite, it commemorates the coronation of our current queen's father George VI and is very topical because of the recent golden jubilee.

This is also a favourite of mine - you can't see the stand in this picture but it looks equally lovely with or without the glass dome on top.

I love the chrome foot on this one, very stylish and perfect for a tea time Victoria sponge.

I'm hoping to add to my collection and already have my eye on a couple more. It's lovely spotting them at car boots and charity shops for good prices as don't we all love a bargain.

More cakestands can only mean one thing.........MORE CAKES!!!!!!!

So, do YOU collect anything??? I'd love to see your collections.
