This is as good a picture I could get of the collection. They are hidden away in the kitchen cupboards and the smaller ones on the top of them. Took me ages to hunt them all out.
This is my favourite, it commemorates the coronation of our current queen's father George VI and is very topical because of the recent golden jubilee.
This is also a favourite of mine - you can't see the stand in this picture but it looks equally lovely with or without the glass dome on top.
I love the chrome foot on this one, very stylish and perfect for a tea time Victoria sponge.
I'm hoping to add to my collection and already have my eye on a couple more. It's lovely spotting them at car boots and charity shops for good prices as don't we all love a bargain.
More cakestands can only mean one thing.........MORE CAKES!!!!!!!
So, do YOU collect anything??? I'd love to see your collections.
I love that coronation one!
ReplyDeleteMy mum bought me a 1950s floral cakestand for my birthday a couple of years ago. Actually, I posted a photo of it a couple of days ago- My scones were on top of it!
I collect "stuff", like you say! Though I can't resist a cute 1950s or 60s sewing pattern. I don't even sew these days but I can't help buying them!

Maybe you should start sewing again and use the patterns. I wish I could sew, its a great skill to have xxx
DeleteLovely collection - especially the royal one :)
ReplyDeleteI have a thing for bone china - jugs/cups&saucers mainly :)
I haven't forgotten our Jubilee Swap - I am just waiting for a parcel to arrive & then I will be ready to go - blooming ebay seller is messing me about :(
No worries......I am behind a bit too with something I intended to have made by now. Darned jubilee celebrations have kept me busy - that and Winston. Every time I sit down to stitch he demands attention.....or needs a wee or a walk or all 3!!!
DeleteI love a nice cake stand and a nice cake too, of course.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do like all "stuff" vintage, I have a bit of a weak spot.
I collect compacts. Well, I used to. But now and again I can't resist and buy one.
I even found a cheap plastic one with my name on it! That one goes almost everywhere with me.
Compacts......how truly fabulous!!! Especially to find one with your name on. You must blog about them, I'd love to see
DeleteWhat a lovely collection - I also love the coronation one best - staunch royalist me. I have abit of a collection of cake stands as well, also a few bits now re royalty but probably my biggest collection (which I have been aquiring for years) are items to go in my retro caravan which I hope to have one day soon. Lots of fun kitch plastic ware, barbeque items, linen, funky sleeping bags etc etc....all genuine vintage!! Always very exciting when you nab bargins as well eh. Happy cake stand hunting :-)

Thank you Sheree - I love the fact that you are collecting items for a retro caravan that you don't have yet, that will be fabulous when it all comes together. You can't beat a bit of kitsch and finding the goodies is so thrilling isn't it, especially if you can get a bargain.
DeleteI will write a blog post sometime soon about my vintage bar. I bought it last year for my 40th on a whim and am slowly building up the kitsch vintage bar paraphanalia to go with it. Should have done it your way round xxx
Ohh, I love cake stands and you have some beauties! I'm not really able to collect much due to space/money, but I do really like cake stands and glass domes, I think the domes look so elegant. :) x
ReplyDeleteMy collection sort of just 'happened' by accident hehe.....I have no space now and no funds either but just can't resist if I see a nice one going cheap. I love glass ones, especially with domes, they would be so nice to just display things in on the worktop I think if I wasn't restricted by space xxx
